Welcome to the Courses page for The Lantern Theatre — a hub for creative and performing arts classes in Brighton. These courses are run by ACT Brighton Drama School and are suitable for beginners through to experienced performers.

We offer a range of daytime and evening courses in acting, screen performance, movement, scene study and more — designed to help you build confidence, skills and creative expression in a supportive environment.

Screen Acting / Acting for Camera

Learn the fundamentals of acting for film and television in a friendly and creative setting. This course is ideal for anyone new to camera work or looking to expand their performance skills.

A more in-depth screen acting course that builds on basic camera technique, helping you prepare for real world performance and on-set confidence.

Scene Study Class – Advanced

Designed for actors with some experience who want to explore scenes more deeply, improve character development and performance impact.

Guided partner work

Age Positive Stage Acting Workshop – Beginners Level

Wednesdays 1.30pm - 3.00pm

All the world’s a stage and it’s never too late to be a player! Acting is a great way to boost confidence and memory while building connections over shared experiences.

Join us to have fun and learn theatre skills, whether you’re new to acting or want to rediscover your love for it. Come along and find your creative self-expression through improvisation, character creation, poetry, clowning, dialogue, text, and storytelling.

Suggested age 35+.

Standard £90.00 / Concession £78.75 for six weeks of 1.5hr classes. Drop in for £15 / Concession £11.25 a session

Age Positive Stage Acting Workshop - Intermediate Level

Wednesdays 10.30am - 12.30pm

All the world’s a stage and it’s never too late to be a player! Acting is a great way to boost confidence and memory while building connections over shared experiences.

This intermediate term of classes, taught in two 6 week blocks of 2 hour classes, is aimed at students who have already attended some drama classes and have started to use and understand the basic principles of acting and drama. It is a perfect follow on to our Beginners classes.

Standard £120.00 / Concession £105.00 block of six 2hr classes. Drop in Standard £20 / Concession £15

Course Fees:

Our daytime classes and courses all run at £10 per taught hour, so the total depends on how long the class is and how many weeks it runs for.

Beginners / Intermediate / Advanced

4 week block of 2 hrs is £80.00 (Concession £70.00)

6 week block of 1.5hrs is £90.00 (Concession £78.75)

6 week block of 2hrs is £120.00 (Concession £105.00)

Drop In sessions are £15 (Cons £13.25) for a 1.5hr class and £20 (Cons £17.50) for a 2hr class (where available).
