An Introduction to Playwriting : Staged Readings

Two new playwrights, Daniel Allen and Jason Lever, present new writing developed on ACT’s Introduction to Playwriting course.

This is a rehearsed reading with professional actors bringing these new scripts to the stage for the first time.

An eclectic evening including two direct address monologues featuring a disenchanted theatre usher and Michelangelo’s elderly assistant, Domenico. There are also two play extracts which transport us to two very different worlds – that of Indian soldiers recuperating at the Royal Pavilion during the First World War and of Lola Montez, an Irish dancer and actress who became famous as a Spanish dancer, courtesan, and mistress of King Ludwig I of Bavaria.

    Macbeth

    Directed by Beth Wood

A powerful and haunting adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

When Macbeth kills Duncan and all that is best in himself, the world turns upside down.

Beautiful poetry hits against heightened horror in this ensemble-focused retelling, drawing us into a world of festering ambition and hunger for power that seems frighteningly like our own.
